 Ice Pack

 One way in which you can reduce the severe pain associated with migraine is through icepack. Some experts say that this remedy works by reducing the flow of the blood, which somehow provides relief to the individual. When you are experiencing a headache, put an ice pack on your forehead on the neck to get relief. You can also purchase a frozen gel pack or use a washcloth which has been raised in cold water to do the same.       

A Mug Of Coffee 

Several experts say that taking caffeine also gives some mild relief to an individual going through a migraine headache. Caffeine is the ingredient in coffee and other drinks, which helps the body to absorb the drugs taken for migraine faster. However, one must be careful while drinking a lot of coffee as if you get dependent on it, then the recurrence of headaches may increase, and you may feel fatigued. Therefore, in this case, moderation is the key.


It is quite a well-known fact that people who go through migraine-related pains get sensitive to light and sound. In such a case, even the slightest amount of discomfort magnifies. Therefore, always make space for yourself in your bedroom. Find a spot away from all the loud environment and try to fall asleep. Dark vicinities tend to increase the melatonin secretion from the brain, which helps you to fall asleep. You might also want to purchase an eye mask for added benefit.


Sometimes lack of sleep may magnify the discomfort associated with migraine. This is why you must make sure to sleep for a significant amount of time during the day. Getting a regular shut-eye sleep can help you to ward off the discomfort. Sometimes too much sleep may also trigger headaches and result in a lower threshold for pain. As such, sleep for a significant amount of time, not too little and not too much. 

Vitamin B2

Vitamin B2 is also known as riboflavin. High doses of this type of vitamin may help prevent headaches related to migraine. This has been concluded in a study by some neurologist. However, one should never take vitamin supplements on their own. You must ask your doctor to give you a suitable dose, and then you can purchase it yourself from time to time.


It is a well-known fact that a person who exercises regularly experiences lesser health discomfort. As such, you can also use some simple exercises to manage your migraine-related headaches. Some breathing exercises and beneficial body postures incorporating yoga help in promoting the overall well-being of the body. These reading exercises are also known to reduce anxiety and release tension in the migraine trigger areas. As such, exercising may help to improve vascular health, thereby reducing the severity of the associated symptoms.

Essential Oils 

Using essential oils to massage your head or neck has also been used by several people to get relief from migraine-related pains. Applying peppermint oil may stop a migraine from coming according to a study. According to this study, the active constituent of peppermint oil, known as mental helps in providing relief in cases of pain, nausea and even light sensitivity.

Another essential oil that has been very beneficial in managing migraine is lavender oil. Inhaling lavender essential oil during a migraine attack for a significant amount of time provides faster relief according to a study. You can either inhale it directly or apply a diluted form to the temples of your head.
